“Following on from the February CSI Mastermind call and my question to Kim, I’ve taken up the challenge she set me to spend the next month working on the outline of the program I want to offer my clients. I’ll also be working on my signature talk. By the time we meet again for the March call I will have the program outline in place. If you haven’t caught up on the last mastermind call and are wondering how this challenge from Kim came about, I strongly advise you to listen to the recording – the subject of the call is gold dust and Kim’s advice to HF and myself should help many of you too. As always, Kim offers great advice!” JM, UK
“Just wanted to say thank you Kim Bolsover for yesterday’s mastermind call. It was regenerating and it was exactly what I needed to hear.” AP, Italy
“”Time for me to write a little about the last mastermind call. I wasn’t listening live but have since listened. What a cracker! Really very valuable and thanks to HF and Kim Bolsover for entertainment plus as well as grist for the mill on valuing our business and worth. My prices just went up by the way. Lol! Here are my five commitments… Can’t wait to hear everyone’s progress over the next month.” MC, Australia
“Quick update on where I am with Kim’s challenge to me during last month’s call (and a request for some feedback). I’ve now put together the outline of the programs I am offering my clients and working on the wording for the web page and social media marketing to promote them. I’m still working on my signature talk, but I need to get my request in to speak at the event I mentioned in last month’s call. To do this, I need a title. I’ve come up with a few options and I’d love your feedback…” JM, UK
“An update on my March commitments which was to have my business plan and a program plan through to Kim by 31/3. The biz plan is finished and thanks Kim, I am taking on the feedback you have suggested. My first reaction to that was, ‘brilliant!’. 5 seconds later my brain said ‘holy (unprintable)’. So this will be my first program plan per se. Can’t remember when I said I would do it by but it’s written down in the biz plan. Thanks to everyone in this group. Great to have people to work with.” MC, Australia
“It has been a long time coming but I actually have four ladies booked in for a colour workshop next Saturday. One lady found me through my website and organised the three others to come along with her. I’m looking forward to it with apprehension. I haven’t done any promoting – life outside of this has literally bought my head space to a standstill. So grateful to you Kim, for the guidelines for running a colour workshop suggested in your audiobook series, and all the information that you offer through your courses.” Christine, NZ
“Very interesting mastermind call (The Secret to Growth). Love the ‘giving skills and value’, and also the method to increase focus. Always helpful to hear your real life challenges too, Kim. Thanks for your honesty and commitment to this group. “ Michelle, Australia
What is a mastermind?
A group of smart people who meet regularly, to tackle challenges and problems together. They lean on each other, give advice, share connections and do business with each other when appropriate. Some purists will argue that a true mastermind doesn’t contain any teaching and in the spirit of the mastermind principle set out by Napoleon Hill in his book ‘Think and Grow Rich’, they’re probably right. But I’ve found that a mastermind group like this thrives when there’s a specific subject being taught or discussed, even if all that does is to get a conversation going. In my experience a teaching element adds huge focus and invariably generates incredibly powerful and productive ideas – for everyone involved.
I’ll be honest here. I’m not just running this for you. I’m expecting to learn masses from you and to have some amazing light-bulb moments that help propel my business forward too. Over the years, I’ve had some of my greatest a-ha moments in a mastermind meeting. And so will you!
Personally, I would never, ever be without a mastermind. It’s absolutely been the key to my success.
Masterminds are incredible and can do wonders for your business as well as for you, personally.
“We all need people in our lives who raise our standards, remind us of our essential purpose, and challenge us to become the-best-version-of-ourselves.”
The people we surround ourselves with either raise or lower our standards. They either help us become the-best-version-of-ourselves or encourage us to become lesser versions of ourselves. We become like our friends. No man becomes great on his own. No woman becomes great on her own. The people around them help to make them great.
We all need people in our lives who raise our standards, remind us of our essential purpose, and challenge us to become the-best-version-of-ourselves. Matthew Kelly, ‘The Rhythm of Life: Living Every Day with Passion and Purpose’
“It’s great to be in a group of people who all understand how powerful it can be to getting what you desire from life just by changing your attitude and ways of thinking, as well as the opportunities which present themselves once we make that decision…”
…it’s the power of the mastermind.
The Power of the Mastermind
and why you need one in your life
Ethelreda, one of my VIP image consultants, asked me recently, “Kim, when did your business make a major upturn? What was the reason behind it? Hiring a business coach? Launching your online courses? Raising your prices?”
It took me a few days to muse on this one as I had never thought this through before. Finally I replied, “Hiring a business mentor in 2008 I discovered that working with groups of other business owners in a mastermind was absolutely priceless.” Up to that point I had never wanted to belong to a group of any kind. I’m an introspective introvert. Heck, I come over all unnecessary at the thought of a family get-together and I avoid parties like the plague.
But when I joined my mentor’s program, it meant having to be around 10 to 30 other people for 3 whole days four times a year! I nearly didn’t sign up. Even now, the very thought of having to spend time with a group of strangers who might all be extraverts makes me want to lie down in a darkened room. So, as you can imagine, each quarterly retreat with all those people made me dig deep.
We also had monthly mastermind phone calls and, having thought long and hard about Ethelreda’s question, it dawned on me that this is where I had probably benefitted the most. Which is pretty amazing because, for the first year, I didn’t say a word. I kid you not!
- I just sat and listened to all the amazing questions that I would never have thought of in a million years.
- I learned by listening to the huge variety of perspectives and solutions that came from masterminding each issue
- I was absolutely fascinated by the insights and results other business owners had when they were being coached in the ‘hot seat’
- We learned how crucial having the right mindset is
- And as each call started with a teaching session, we all learned a massive amount about the practicalities of running a successful business
The discussions then carried on in our online community where we could ask more questions, and get help, support and coaching from both our mentor and all the other members. And the connections that being in a mastermind brings allowed us to create relationships with other individual members. I have done joint ventures, been a guest speaker and writer and years later, I am still masterminding with many of those business owners that I met on my mentor’s program.
I would never be without a mastermind.
I’ve run several masterminds in the past for image consultants who have trained with me, and they have been absolutely fantastic for everyone, an almost magical experience.
“It is great to be in a group of people who all understand how powerful it can be to getting what you desire from life just by changing your attitude and ways of thinking, as well as the opportunities which present themselves once we make that decision.” DM, Scotland
We’ve discussed everything from what to put on your business card to the meaning of life.
I’m so glad that Ethelreda asked me that rather searching question. It made me even more determined to create a mastermind specifically for image consultants and personal stylists.

I asked some of my VIP consultants what they would like to learn more about.
They said attracting clients, marketing, creating packages, public speaking, running workshops, mindset, pricing, and loads more.
So, in a nutshell, that’s what you’re going to get!
After listening to the training on keep-in-touch marketing Finlinburga wrote, Thanks Kim – I’ve just listened to the recording. I found your answers to the question sent in particularly helpful – i.e. what to say to people on your database if you want to contact them. It is weird but it is that sort of very practical detail which helps me to feel Yes, I could do that. It is probably the sort of thing which seems blisteringly obvious to you! At least I could tick one or two items – going to networking meetings and creating a monthly newsletter.
Thanks again for all your excellent tips and advice, Kim. I have already been doing one thing – keeping detailed records. Now to put them to good use! Cristelinde
In the very first live Q&A session, Halleburga helped herself to almost an hour’s bespoke coaching as we talked about her upcoming promotional talks. We discussed suggestions for titles, what and how much content to include, how to time them, how to use promotional talks to get bookings for consultations and workshops, and how to position them in her marketing plan.
In our exclusive Facebook group for members of the CSI Mastermind, Halleburga wrote, Many thanks Kim for a great start to the Mastermind group. I do hope my questions have helped the rest of you in the group. I learnt a lot and will certainly be experimenting with my marketing funnel at the workshop I am running on Friday!
After listening to a training about mindset, Cristelinde wrote, Have listened to the new recording this morning. I have heard different talks on the mindset topic before and with anything there is a time when we are ready to hear things that are being said. I will be honest and say I had emotional responses to a few of the things you said Kim. This was a reality check for me. If it wasn’t so early in the day here in New Zealand I might be tempted to have a large G and T about now.
Well worth the investment! If you are on the fence, do it! It keeps me moving forward and helps keep my sanity in the start-up stage of my biz. Michelle C, Australia
